Police tackle unruly behaviour in Norwich

A pilot carried out in Norwich could bring new hope to teachers looking to combat pupils' unruly behaviour.

Two schools in the area have welcomed the permanent placement of police officers in their buildings, reports Norwich Evening News.

Officers were given their own room at both Earlham High School and the Blyth Jex School in a bid to tackle fighting, bullying, truancy and school-related crime.

And the scheme has been deemed a huge success by teachers and the police, who have praised the initiative that saw officers working closely with both staff and pupils.

PC Trevor Eves, who has been working at Earlham High School, told the paper that the scheme is about giving the children "life skills, explaining what happens when they break the law [and] dealing with community issues".

And the head of Blyth Jex stated that PC Pippa Hind has had a hugely positive impact on the school, saying: "Her role means that students have an approachable member of the police to contact and also benefits the police in knowing the young people within the community."

Earlier this month a survey carried out by a number of teaching unions revealed that in just one week, more than one in ten teachers were physically injured after being attacked in school.
