June will see the commencement of a nationwide ceremony to celebrate the achievements of teachers throughout the UK.
The Teaching Awards honour school staff in 11 regions who have made an outstanding contribution in their field.
Accolades on offer include those for secondary school teacher of the year, secondary school headteacher of the year, special needs teacher of the year and governor of the year.
There is also a new prize in the award's tenth anniversary year - the General Teaching Council Award for Excellence in Professional Development.
And 2008 sees seven teachers from Suffolk and Essex up for an accolade, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
"Society needs to recognise their contribution and that teaching is a fulfilling career. The Teaching Awards is a great way to say thank you and we are proud to recognise such excellence and passion," Caroline Evans, Awards chief executive, told the paper.
The prize of a Plato will be handed out to teachers as part of a three-week tour by judges, who will take part in 13 ceremonies around the UK.
